General Meeting Minutes – March 2, 2007

Proceedings:   Meeting called to order at 7:25pm by Kevin Blair.

Raffle:  Raised $33.00 – Winning number 434419 (Deb Correia)

SIM Question:

  • What is the correct response to a canopy entanglement with another jumper below 1,000 feet if it appears the two canopies cannot be separated in time for a safe landing?  (category g)
    ANSWER: Deploy the reserve
    WINNER: Charles Markin

MOTION: Approve minutes for February 2 meeting.

Treasurer’s Report

Old Business

  • Safety Day
    1. Charlie – need volunteers for Friday – last year 6 people took ½ hour.  Kelley can help out (after sunset)
    2. Good turnout for help on Breakfast
    3. Donations for prizes for Safety Day.
      1. Seattle Skydivers has donated repacks, Solo, altimaster
      2. Kelley Craig donated (2) photo jumps
      3. Skydive Snohomish donated 2 reserve packs, 5 free caravan jumps, hooded sweatshirt and 50% an Optima.
      4. Anonymous donor – Donated a scenic flight from Harvey Field.
      5. We received anonymous donation of $250.00.
    4. Charlie asked if anybody can donate a service for safety day. 

MOTION:   Motion to spend up to $150 for Safety Day Breakfast.

  • Question:  What is expected turnout (2006 was 80)

  • Deb Correia update on calendar. Idea for coming up with Calendar.  Deb ran it by Kinko;s or Office Depot.  Calendars can be $12.00 per calendar. Quantity should be at least 50 (or $600). 

New Business

  • General membership discussed balance in Seattle Skydivers account.  Are
  • Snohomish based free fly group.  Proposals for Seattle Skydiver to make money were:
  • Discussed last years Guano day.  Income on $970  expenses $2280.71.
    1. Bring out 2 individuals instead of one – one does load organizing and one does coaching on the load.  This means more group participation and more loads   This idea will be deferred to the board to bring back to the general membership at the April meeting.
    2. Kelley asked if we brought in a 4 way team vs. free fliers, could we generate more income. 
      Bring out the otter?
    3. Concept is to make jumps, but not make money?
      Jet City ??  Dark Side?
    4. Ideas for another marquee event?
    5. Summer Solstice Boogie.  Kevin solicited group to come up with other ideas from group for an event.

Safety Items and Announcements

  • Safety Day is on March 10.
  • Heather Shipley can help out on Safety Day Breakfast.
