General Meeting Minutes - February 2, 2008

Welcome

Carrie Holmes called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. and welcomed all to the first general membership meeting of the year. She also introduced each of the board members who were present at the meeting: Carolyn Chow, April Eft, Dave Huber, and Erin Effmann.

What is SSD?

  • Read SSD mission/objectives.
  • Major 2008 goals: increase membership and grow skydiving community through activities for membership.
  • What membership gets you:
    • Welcome packet (to be discussed later)
    • Member/non-member activities.
  • How to become a member and/or receive communications about events.

Activities

  • Planned activities:
    • Monthly Club Meetings -- Carrie reviewed the club meeting schedule as well as upcoming club activities. Details for the monthly meeting and activities can be found on the club website.
    • Monthly Skydiving based activity (read idea list)
    • Video Basics Workshop -- Carolyn talked about the Video Basics Workshop, scheduled on February 16th at Skydive Snohomish. All are welcomed and encouraged to attend.
    • Safety Day, March 8 -- Carrie talked about Safety Day. The club will be sponsoring the breakfast and lunch at Skydive Snohomish. Many volunteers are needed for this important annual event. Please contact a board member if interested in volunteering. Donations for the raffle at the end of the day are also needed.
    • Escape to Elsinore, March 28-30 -- Deb Correia gave details about the upcoming trip to Elsinore. She has already scheduled 8 hours of tunnel time, so please register as soon as possible if you are planning to participate. The registration form and details are available on the club website. There are also other activities going on at Skydive Elsinore that weekend, which can be found at
      www.skydiveelsinore.com.
    • Carrie and Carolyn met with Tyson Harvey of Skydive Snohomish to discuss SSD events at the drop zone in 2008. Tyson agreed to provide a $3 discount per jump for SSD members during SSD events. He also agreed to post a Calendar of Events on the DZ bulletin board.

Membership Approval

  • $$ spent back in October
    • There were some expenses in October 2007 that the club made, which need to be voted upon for approval, including donations to Search and Rescue. April made a motion to approve the expenses, which was seconded by Erin. Carrie called for a vote and it was approved unanimously.
    • Seattle Skydivers was asked to make a donation to the Make-A-Wish-Foundation. Erin made a motion to approve the expense, which was seconded by Carolyn. Carrie called for a vote and it was approved unanimously.
  • Welcome packet -- April presented the idea of a Welcome Packet for all SSD members. The purpose of the packet would be to provide new members with information about the club, including the benefits of membership. The packet would include a welcome letter, magnet, and helmet sticker. The approximate cost for 100 packets is $70.00. Deb made the motion to approve the expenses, which was seconded by Erin. Carrie called for a vote and it was approved unanimously.
