Board Meeting Minutes - April 17, 2008

Board Update:

CJ confirmed that we could appoint someone directly to the board in the event that someone resigned.
April Kloser has expressed interest in the job.
After discussion we decided to send an email to all of the people who were on the ballot in December and ask if any of them have interest in serving as secretary. We will explain when the meetings (both board
and general) are. In the event that there is more than one person
interested, Carolyn has suggested mud wrestling as a way to settle
the score.
Carolyn
will send out the email and then let us know the results.

Financial Update:

Not available until Charlie gets back.

Membership:

There was a lengthy discussion about how to increase membership, and how to generate funds for the club. One of the major problems is that members are getting the services of Seattle Skydivers without having to belong. We need to change the way that the club is viewed and the benefits of membership -- marketing of the club. In years past, members had to be sponsored into the club... an idea worth exploring?

Marketing the club:

Create a phone list of all members, phone numbers, addresses and emails. In addition, list special skills or things that may be helpful.

List should be posted on website and given to new members.
Make things and events exclusive -- Winesday, parties, special lunches, etc.
Create a coupon book of sorts, and have our members give things to other members. Discount on reserve repacks, coach jumps, CRW training, camera jumps, load organizing, still shots, discounts on packing classes/courses.
Make owners manual (like car manual) to be included in the welcome packet. Have useful numbers, things about the club (did you know there is a drop box?!) and events.
Create the calendar complete with photos. 18 month?
Have a photo contest where members can submit stills that will be collected, judged and then put into a book. (just came up with that one!)
Make it cool to be a SSD member.
Mentorship of new members/ jumpers. Like Big brothers Big sisters. When you join, you get a mentor. That person needs to be a primary contact for new jumpers and someone who will bring them into the fold. Invite them to events etc.
Jordan has created a program for the 25 jumps after student status. Tyson was not interested. Talk to Jordan about SSD implementing his program using the coaches and people we have. In exchange for using his program, we would need to offer him membership.
Make trips to other dropzones SSD events. Members only.
Bottom line.... we need to show non members that there is significant value in belonging and make it harder for them to not belong. We need to up the status of the club.
Erin will create a marketing plan for the club

SSD Calendar:

Wingsuit Weekend
- In the past, Tyson has split some of the cost of bringing things in for that weekend.
- Tony has offered to be a big help.
- Do at Kapow? We should present the idea to both drop zones and see what they are willing to help with and offer. Pick the best offer.
Film Festival at Kapow. Invite membership to participate.
No Show meet this weekend.
- Weather is supposed to be nasty
- People will be paired according to experience (more than 100/ less than 100)
- The team following you gets to name your team
- In case of low altitude: Black Jack- 2 rounds you get a randomly drawn card when you land. (Team ends up with 4 cards. You pick your black jack hand from those cards and in the event of a tie at the end of the day, then you can pick another card from your remaining two. )
- If one jumper from the team does not complete jumps, then the other can still play with their two cards.
- Dave understands it... so he will explain!
- There will be a doorprize of a $25 gift card to Fred's and then they can pick from the remaining prizes of:
  - $25 cash
  - Camera/stills jump
  - Coach jump
  - CRW training
  - ½ off of one of static line instructor course or coach course or free water training.

Current Events:

Photo is great for the sticker. Will have Niki take out the fuzzies so that it is more of an outline.
Seattle Skydivers written in “Copper Plate Bold”
May 17 event will be at Snohomish providing (find out if) Tyson is flying the Caravan. If not, call Kapow and find out what plane they are flying. 3 Way scrambles.
June event - Mystery dives... 4 way. Call Kerri and make sure that is okay.
Will have the membership meeting on May 17 -- scramble night.
