Unfinished Business:
- T-shirts: Approved to replenish stock. 100 shirts printed on royal blue in various sizes. Approximately $900.
- Safety Day:
- Kimberly Smith and April Neal volunteered for the pancake breakfast.
- There will be a pizza lunch and a kabob dinner and cookies all day! A budget of approximately $160 to cover food expenses was approved.
- The sessions will be the same as last year with the prize drawings after the last session.
- Prize donations from members are needed. Please let Tyson know if you have a donation. So far, we have coached CRW jumps, pack jobs, and reserve pack jobs. Deb will email the membership, requesting prize donations.
- It was approved for the club donations to include two audible dytters with a $300 limit.
- Club Collection Box: Tyson installed a locked box for any club business, membership renewal payments, etc. Charlie has the key. The box cost $25 and it was approved for the club to reimburse Tyson.
- Freefly Organizing: Karen reported on the status. She proposed having a minimum of two freefly camps, bringing in organizers who would provide coaching with an emphasis on safety and encouraging small freefly groups to develop skills. The coaching would be free but the slots would need to be covered. The camps would include a safety lecture. Another idea is to have an end of season boogie camp. Hopefully we will attract others from around the region. Approximate cost to bring in three organizers is $1500 to cover airfare. Tyson volunteered to cover airfare for one. It was suggested that the boogie include other disciplines other than freeflying. Advertising the camps was discussed, including an announcement in Parachutist.
- Student Mentoring Program: Dave Correia reviewed the outline. The purpose of this program is to educate and inspire lower tier jumpers, with emphasis on safety, good body position, etc. Possibly two tiers: less than 200 jumps and more than 200 jumps. Suggesting 3-4 jumps per day. Mentors would welcome jumpers and act as an ambassador to the sport. There would be different types of mentoring including CRW, RW, and freeflying. It was discussed whether or not the mentoring would be free to members and if there would be a fee for non-members. We will have to coordinate with Skydive Snohomish with regard to scheduling. The incentive to mentor is not to make money but to give back to the sport. The topic of who would cover the slots was discussed. Volunteer mentors must be an SSD member and be at the coach level with the ability to demonstrate proficiency. CJ is offering a free coach class to SSD members interested in volunteering as mentors. See CJ for more information. Dave to present final outline including costs at the next meeting. Contact Dave if you are interested in volunteering as a mentor.
- RW Organizing: Dave Correia looking at this on a local level. He will provide an outline at the next meeting.
New business:
- Gavel: The question was asked about whether the club should purchase a gavel for the president’s use or to keep at the end of the term. It was approved to give a gavel to each president.
- Advertisement on the website: This would help to cover the administrative costs of running the website. Bryan to make a formal presentation at the next meeting.
- CD: Charlie did some research. We could have the money in a CD with a APR of 4.0% but the money would be inaccessible for 10 months. Or we could have a CD with 3.5% APR with the ability to withdraw without penalty after six days. It was approved to move $10,000 into the CD with the 4.0% APR for 10 months and put the remainder of the money into a savings or money market account.
- Summer events: Based on survey results, only two events had moderate interest but enough to keep on the list. Volunteers are needed!
- Tyson and CJ volunteered for the Demo Vendor Day.
- Jim Murray and Dave Patterson will organize the wingsuit day.
- Steve Skoda will research the Jump ‘n’ Shoot.
- April Neal to organize Appreciation Day.
- Todd Davis volunteered for the specialty aircraft jumps.
- Gonna Be Day is no longer necessary with the student mentoring program in place.
- Jim Murray and Jeff Dimmock volunteered for the flat tracking.
- Deb and Cindy volunteered for competition jumps.
- There were no volunteers for the Rodeo dives.
- If interested in volunteering for any of these events, please contact Bryan.
